I want to enter the 8 UK PMR frequencies, but when I entered the first one (446.00625) it appears as 446,0000.I know it's something to do with step size but not sure exactly what. The frequencies are supposed to be 12.5 khz steps but when I change to that, this is what I get. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Gerry,

So yes if you entered 446.00625 with 12.5 kHz steps the result would be
446.000.0 If the first frequency is really 446.00625 you would need 5
kHz steps. That is the closest you get i.e., 446.005.0 The next channel
would be 446.020.0 (the closest you can get). Then the next would be
446.030.0 (the closest you can get) if you can follow the math.

Did a 'net search and found this @

<http://ukspec.tripod.com/spectrum.html#b400>

PMR 446
446.006..PMR446 (Euro SRBR), to 446.093 (8x 12.5kHz - within 446-446.1,
6.25kHz offsets)
Introduced in 1999 500mW licence exempt. Status in Europe
446.00625 1 (446.005 to nearest 5kHz, 1.25kHz error)
446.01875 2 (446.020)
446.03125 3 (446.030)
446.04375 4 (446.045)
446.05625 5 (446.055)
446.06875 6 (446.070)
446.08125 7 (446.080)
446.09375 8 (446.095)

So you see Gerry you have to enter the frequencies in the brackets with
5 kHz steps.

If you have come here to find out about the Uniden BC-780 you have come to the right place! In fact the discussion of the BC-780 is the only acceptable topic on this list. Please. I hope this is clear to all group members.

Ok Don,and thanx for your input here.I've checked out the step size, and using the 5khz setting, this is what I'm getting. The scanner has entered channels 6 & 8 (.07 & .095 respectively) as .075 and .01 respectively. It is also recognising .02 &.03 as duplicates,as well as .045 & .055,AND .07 & .08! I think I'll just forget about this for the moment.I should add that I was able to enter the frequencies as given, into my PRO 2006 without any problems.Having said that, after monitoring them for about an hour,I heard absolutely nothing,so it's hardly worth the bother anyway.Cheers Don.

Hello,
Due to the very low power, if you live in the countryside, you can forget about monitoring PMR446 users. Around towns (or in the middle of them), there's hope as many professionnal use these, no licence fees for frequency usage, constructions workers for instance between the guy in a crane, and colleagues at earth level. There's little leisure activity also, montain stuff and so, and parents with children around. There are some forums of PMR446 users to get 'appointments' for a radio contact, as UHF is quite different
from lower freqs, it's an interesting playground.
