[UnidenBC780XLT] Loss of VHF Sensitivity

Hi..
Just notices my 780 XTL is not receiving well, certainly not on VHF . This post may be premature, as I have not started detailed troubleshooting, but I have the gut feeling (due to similar front end problems in other radios) that some near-by Lightning or RF has taken out the front end.


Air band/BC FM "seems" ok, although weaker signal strength than I would normally expect ( Its been a long time since I have used the 780) , UHF and higher seem ok...but that's in just flipping through....I have to do more detail testing.


Before I go on a tangent, is the VHF front end pre-amp, or any BPF known to be a common repair item on the 780? I will check usual RF connection to C.B. problems etc, but I doubt that is it...



I will report back, but any heads-up on sensitivity issues for the 780 would be appreciated.

I'm not aware of any particular shortcomings of the '780. For what it's
worth, the two I own are pretty long in the tooth and both are still
working well. If it has been a 'long time' since last used, is it
possible that something in the shack (or nearby) is affecting the '780
front end. Move the '780 to another location (far away) to see if there
is any improvement.
