Discussion:
LND13 question

Greetings everyone, I acquired a 780 from a friend who got it used some time ago. The scanner has a RCA jack on the back that I assumed was a tap, but when I opened it up the jack is wired to LND13 which is labeled as DCS Data as best as I can tell. Would anyone know what this mod is for?

Thanks,
Mark Mc.

I wonder if this is a mod used for feeding a computer sound card and
software, or a self contained decoder/display unit for decoding DCS or
CTCS squelch tones?

I thought that as well, I have been goggling that as well as looking on the Radio Reference site and wiki to see if there was anything, but I can't find it. Almost everything uses the discriminator output, the person that did this mod took a lot of time to do it clean, and used hot glue to hold the wires up and around the case very professionally.

Thanks for your input I'll keep looking, it has my curiosity up.

Possibly. The 780 takes a bit to run through all the possibilities. I
suppose if you had a PC or outboard reader you could get it faster.

I would have to pull out all my documentation, but that may be a
discriminator tap to allow baseband audio to be fed into a decoder that
could decode Digital Coded Squelch, CTCSS, etc. The recommendation is that
a resistor is put in series with that tap to prevent shorting to ground.
Some used a capacitor, but that generally yielded poorer results.

I was looking at the schematics online this morning, and It does appear that might be the case, I am going to test it this evening when I get home and see how it works.

Thanks everyone for their input
